Valencia - FC Barcelona 1 - 1

The game against Valencia at Mestalla proved to be quite a challenge for FC Barcelona. Valencia's Ever Banega scored the opening goal on the 33th minute. Nine minutes later Barca tied with Lionel Messi's beautiful penalty goal. However, without the penalty I'm afraid Barca just might've returned from Valencia with zero points. The first half was not good. I think that Barca's game was quite a mess. There were never players when you would've needed them. Valencia on the other hand played very well. They were aggressive and didn't allow Barca to do their usual passing, at least not as much as usually.

In the second half FC Barcelona got their act more together and was actually quite dangerous from time to time. Switching Javier Mascherano to captain Carles Puyol really helped and secured Barca's defense much more. The star of the evening in my opinion was definitely Victor Valdes, who had a few amazing saves. Valencia's Roberto Soldado was desperate for a goal and seemed very frustrated for not scoring. Despite his best efforts it wasn't the best night in his career. I'm not saying that he played badly, but he did miss a few good chances. The game was nerve-racking to the final minute and even though Barca had a few good chances to score the winning goal, so did Valencia and therefore a tie was an okay result.
