A long, long, long game finally ended on penalties with Spain securing their place in the final against Brazil. Italy will play for the third place against Uruguay on Sunday.
In the opening half Italy controlled the game completely. Spain's left side was very leaky and Italy was able to come through over and over again. Thanks to San Iker, who played an incredible game once again, Italy didn't manage to score a goal.
On the second half nobody really had any good chances of scoring. Extra time seemed like an unavoidable follow-up to the goalless game.
On extra time Spain finally got it together. They had many good chances, but weren't able to finish. And so it was time for a penalty shoot out.
Even the penalties seemed to go on forever. Both teams scored their first five goals. And so the next step was sudden death. Leonardo Bonucci was the unlucky one who ended the game missing his penalty. Jesus Navas managed to score his and Spain won.
